Åsa Edfeldt is Chief of staff at Boliden Mines, holding responsability for functions as exploration, sustainability, business development, technology and communication& public affairs.
Her previous employments include vice president of Kaunis Iron and site manager for Kunisvaara mine, municipal manager for Pajala municipality, and mining planning manager at Northland Resources.
Åsa Edfeldt grew up in Oravais in Ostrobothnia and studied geology and mineralogy from 1994 at Åbo Akademi University, with a master's degree in 2001. She became a licentiate in ore geology at Luleå University of Technology in 2003 and made her PhD on the topic of the relationship between the formation of iron ores and copper/gold ores.

We operate in Sweden, Norway, Finland, Ireland and Portugal, holding experience of operating in several countries over our 101-year history. For decades, we have experienced a Europe that has done everything in its power to reduce European mining, until now. The European Commission's vision to increase domestic production is an important signal that sustainably mined metals are needed, but we have a long way to go before we can achieve the vision. Issues of access to water and land, as well as the fight against unreasonable environmental quality requirements, are high on Boliden's agenda to ensure that mines can exist within the EU. There is also a need for increased understanding in society about the need for metals and that the choice is sometimes as simple as asking yourself the question "do I want sustainably produced metals from Europe, or dirty metals from somewhere else?"
